elizabeth_fallaize.jpg Professor Elizabeth Fallaize died aged 59 in December 2009 of Motor Neurone Disease. She was probably the woprld expert on the writings of Simone de Beauvoir. She was also from 2005 Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education at Oxford and Chair of the Modern Languages Faculty Board. WAFE honours women who pioneer women's ability to take on these roles.

But Professor Fallaize did much more for women. She consistently promoted the advancement of women and Women's Studies in Higher Education. In her will, she left money to found a graduate Studentship in her name.

She had children, and was known for her 'forthright manner and personal warmth', as tutor, mentor and friend (source: Independent 30-12-09)
